Jonas Maciulis announces retirement / News - Basketnews.com
Former Zalgiris Kaunas, Armani Exchange, Real Madrid, and AEK Athens forward Jonas Maciulis is retiring from professional basketball.
However, the 36-years-old will remain close to basketball and take a consultant role in the Lithuanian club Nevezis Kedainiai, reports Eurolyga.lt journalist Rokas Pakenas.
“Partly, I’m ending my career calmly,” said Maciulis to Eurolyga.lt. “On the other hand, I wanted to finish my career with the Lithuanian national team or by playing at a high level. But if the player isn’t needed, you have to realize that your time has come.”
Throughout his career, the Lithuanian played for Nevezis Kedainiai, Zalgiris Kaunas, AX Armani Exchange Milan, Baltai Kaunas, Montepaschi Siena, Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, Real Madrid, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, and AEK Athens.
Maciulis became EuroLeague champion once in 2015. He also has two Spanish League, three Spanish Cups, one Spanish Supercup, 2 Greek League, 3 Greek Cups, one Italian League, and 3 Lithuanian League trophies.
With the national team, Maciulis won one bronze in the 2010 FIBA World Cup, two silvers (2013 and 2015), and another bronze medal (2007) in EuroBasket.
