Rokas Giedraitis: 'I had offers from the NBA this summer' / News - Basketnews.com
Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz forward Rokas Giedraitis gave an interview to Mundo Deportivo and talked about the upcoming season while also mentioning the opportunity to transfer to the NBA this summer.
"I had offers from the NBA, however, after discussing them with my family, we decided that we were happy in Vitoria," Giedraitis explained. "At the moment, staying with Baskonia is the best option."
The Lithuanian swingman also mentioned that head coach Dusko Ivanovic played a role in him staying in Spain because the Montenegrin specialist can draw the best out of his players.
However, Giedraitis emphasized that his family played the biggest part in his decision to stay: "We like Vitoria. The city is small and quiet but charming at the same time."
The 2.00 m forward is happy with Baskonia's offseason moves but also stated that the squad will still need to prove themselves on the court.
"We acquired some young, hungry, and competitive players who want to win alongside a great coach. We have a good team and need to work hard every day."
Giedraitis was asked about the arrival of Simone Fontecchio and whether they could both co-exist on the floor.
"I like to dribble the ball and pass. I don't play as deep under the basket as Fontecchio does. This is a new team, but my game will not change."
In terms of the team's goals for the next season, Giedraitis was unwilling to look that far ahead and stressed that the team needed to focus on the next game.
"We can't be 100 percent concentrated in the EuroLeague and only play at a 70 percent capacity in the ACB league. The Spanish league is extremely demanding. Dusko always pushes us, and that is his mentality. In the back of our minds, we need to focus on advancing to the playoffs, however, we must concentrate on the next game."
Giedraitis averaged 12.7 points (40.5% 3PT), 3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals, and 12.9 PIR over 28.8 minutes in the EuroLeague last season.
