Apart from Liolios, an overwhelmingly renewed Board of Directors will take office, following Sunday's vote in which 97% of the clubs took part in the procedure.

Vangelis Liolios was born in Patras in 1967. He is a medical graduate of the University of Patras and holds a master's degree in management of Health Units (MBA) from the Hellenic Open University. He has been practicing Pediatrics for 13 years and as a pediatrician has authored and presented publications at international and Panhellenic medicine conferences, with emphasis on pediatric Pneumology.

In 2004, after a long amateur involvement with sports, he became president of Promitheas Patras, a team for which he also served as a player (1987-1991). In 2018, Promitheas became the 1st provincial team to participate in the Greek League finals. Under his presidency, the Patras team reached the 2020 EuroCup quarter-finals and back-to-back Greek Cup finals (2020, 2021).

Giorgos Vassilakopoulos officially leaves the post after almost 40 years at the helm, since the new sports law would not allow him to run for the office due to age limitations. The former chairman and strongest executive in Greek basketball history is 83.

The faction of Vangelis Liolios beat out former Greek international center Panagiotis Fassoulas and the other nominee, Angelos Papanikolaou. Liolios received 335 votes, i.e. more than 50%. The faction of Fassoulas received 180 votes, with Papanikolaou coming in 3rd (90 votes). This result meant that in contrast to Fassoulas, Papanikolaou would have no representation on the new board.

The 17-member board will be set up in the coming days, but in any case, the chairman is known as of now. Former Greek international and 2007 EuroLeague champion with Panathinaikos Dimos Dikoudis was elected first overall, with 317 votes, while Anny Konstantinidou, one of Greece's all-time best female athletes came in second with 281 and became the first woman ever to be elected on the board. Ex-Barcelona and Sixers big Efthymis Rentzias (included in Fassoulas's ballot) was fourth with 263 votes. Fanis Christodoulou, widely considered as one of Greece's greatest basketball players, got a nod alsowith 215 votes.
