NBA plans amendments on the coach's challenge, a separate in-season tournament / News - Basketnews.com
The NBA Board of Governors will soon vote on changes to the coach's challenge rule, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
The coach's challenge rule could potentially become the only possible means of reviewing which team's player touched the ball last with two minutes or less remaining in the match.
This is expected to save time, as there have been complaints in recent seasons that crucial moments in NBA matches take too long to be played out. The vote on this amendment will take place as early as this month.
There is no mention of whether the challenge would remain at the coach's disposal if the challenge were successful. Until now, coaches were able to challenge on questionable foul calls as well.
Charania also reports another potential innovation. The NBA is said to be discussing the possibility of hosting a separate tournament during the season. However, it will not be implemented in the upcoming season yet.
Each basketball player of the winning team would receive $1 million. No further details of such tournament are discloses at this time.
