The Israeli National Team has a new head coach. 51-year-old Guy Goodes takes over the reins, as the Israeli Basketball Association announced.
He replaces the former head coach Oded Kattash.
"I am happy for the appointment, for the great honor, and trust to lead the Israeli team. This is a very emotional moment for me, as a former Israeli player, from the youth teams to the senior team. I am well aware of the great challenge that awaits me. I will do everything possible or necessary to help the team succeed. There is a lot of quality in the current team. In recent years, we have seen that the team has done a beautiful work that we want to continue," Goodes said.
Guy Goodes has already been a member of his country's NT coaching staff on two separate occasions, but this would be his first role as the head coach. The basketball specialist had coached Maccabi Tel Aviv and was David Blatt's assistant when the team won the EuroLeague in 2014.
He has also previously coached Hapoel Jerusalem and is the current head coach of Maccabi Rishon Lezion. Before becoming a coach, Goodes was a player and a member of the Israeli NT.
46-year-old Kattash was the bench boss of the Israel NT for the past four years. He helped the team advance to the 2022 EuroBasket, where Israel will face Germany, Poland, and Estonia.
