"I just thought it was a great challenge, a great opportunity, a great responsibility. I sought out this opportunity. You've been there, you can relate. You can share and talk about that with the guys. I actually think the collection of all my experiences helped. Playing in the Olympics, having played in the NBA, working in TV, ownership, everything. It gives you a unique perspective that as we move forward and continue to try to be the best we can be, all that totality of it all is helpful. We'll see."
As 72-year-old Gregg Popovich finished his five-year stint as the head coach of Team USA this summer, Hill has the tough task of finding a new general for the Americans. The 1995 Co-Rookie of the Year said that this is his first job and talked about what he is looking for in a new coach.
"Someone who can manage a locker room, who understands the international play, obviously can coach, and understands this isn't over. Spending the last year just really studying the international game, it's different. It’s a different game than our game, and understanding that and respecting that is vitally important and not just for the staff but for the players as well."
Hill also mentioned his hopes of hiring a new coach before the start of the upcoming NBA season that tips off on October 19. The Undefeated's sources say that a current NBA coach with USA Basketball experience is likely to take the reins.
This list includes Gregg Popovich's assistants Steve Kerr and Lloyd Pierce. Doc Rivers, Nate McMillan, Monty Williams, Tom Thibodeau, and Erik Spoelstra also meet the criteria.
