One of the biggest signings of the Euroleague summer and probably one of the biggest signing ever in French basketball is now official. Mike James is a new player of AS Monaco, the French club announced via its Twitter profile. The American guard, who spent the final part of last season with the Brooklyn Nets, recently parted ways with CSKA Moscow, with whom he was under contract until 2023.

The 31-years-old guard is expected to make around $900k with the French club, sources tell Basketnews. In the past season, James averaged 19.3 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game in Euroleague while shooting 35% from three-point.

While in Brooklyn, he averaged 7.7 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. With the addition of Mike James, Monaco confirm its ambition to become a constant top team in Euroleague after winning the last edition of the Eurocup. Over the summer, Monaco made other important splashes on the market, including signing Lithuanian big man Donatas Motiejunas from China and Serbian sharpshooter Danilo Andjusic.

Mike James expressed his first thoughts about the move talking with the official website of Monaco: "I was really looking for a different and exciting challenge. I wanted to start with something new compared to what I have already experienced before during my career. It’s an opportunity for me to start a new adventure and to prove what I’m worth as a player in this beautiful place that is Monaco. My goal is to win as many matches as possible and to be very competitive in EuroLeague. I am very happy to join Monaco, and I can’t wait to do what I love in France, in a great atmosphere. I can’t wait to join the guys and discover the team, hoping to do great things for the club. We are outsiders, but I come here to have ambitions and to take the group to the highest possible level".
