Famous Israeli head coach Arik Alfasi passed away due to Covid complications.

The 49-year-old became ill about a month ago during a vacation. Alfasi was diagnosed with Covid and later recovered. However, the complications caused by the virus caused his death.

The basketball specialist was fully vaccinated, lived an active lifestyle, didn't have any other health conditions, and didn't smoke. Alfasi was ready to take the third vaccine but contracted Covid and wasn't able to do it.

During his career, Alfasi coached Israeli teams from Ashdod, Nahariyya, and Eilat. He was the strategist for Ironi Ashkelon last season.

While coaching Maccabi Netanya, Alfasi led the team to the first Israeli division and took the team to the final four in the first season, where the team lost to Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv.

Alfasi was chosen as the Israeli Coach of the Year in 2010.
