Warriors owner Joe Lacob on Ben Simmons: 'It doesn't really fit what we're doing' / News - Basketnews.com
During an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob downplayed the idea that the team might try to trade for Ben Simmons, who wants out of Philadelphia and won't report to the Sixers training camp.
Despite acknowledging Simmons' talent, Lacob believes that the Australian forward doesn't fit well with the team for different reasons.
"In some ways, it doesn't really fit what we're doing. He makes a lot of money. And, can he finish games? I don't know," Lacob said during the interview. "He's very talented. The problem is: We have Draymond. Draymond and he are very similar in the sense that neither one really shoots, and they do a lot of the playmaking. That's one issue. The salary structure is another."
Simmons is set to earn $33 million in the next season, and he's under contract through the 2024-2025 season.
