Report: Sixers agree to a three-year deal with rookie Charles Bassey / News - Basketnews.com
As reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to a three-year deal with Nigerian rookie Charles Bassey. The big man was selected with the 53rd pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. The deal is fully guaranteed for the first season, while the second year of the contract is partially guaranteed, Charania specified in his story.
Bassey, a Western Kentucky alumn, had an impressive final season in the NCAA, averaging 17.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game in his junior year. Sixers negotiated for a while with the player and his entourage to reach a deal. The player wanted to have guaranteed money already in the first year of the deal, which is something unusual for a player drafted that low in the second round.
With the addition of Bassey, Sixers now have 15 guaranteed contracts and both two-way spots filled already.
