Steve Kerr emerges as the favorite to take over head coaching duties for Team USA / News - Basketnews.com
72-year-old Gregg Popovich finished his five-year run as the head coach of Team USA this summer.
The new managing director of USA Basketball, Grant Hill, has been looking for a new head coach for Team USA, and he may have found him.
It was previously reported that Hill would look for a current head coach with USA Basketball experience to take over the reins. And now, Marc Stein reports that Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is the favorite to become the new leader for the Americans.
Kerr was an assistant coach under Gregg Popovich for Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics, where the Americans won their fourth straight gold medals.
The 56-year-old won five NBA championships as a player: four with the Chicago Bulls and one with the San Antonio Spurs. He collected three more rings as the Warriors head coach.
