Naturalized American A.J. Slaughterhas been helping the Polish National Team since 2015. However, he is getting up there in age, so the team considers replacing the 34-year-old with someone new.
Przeglad Sportowy reports that Poland is looking at center Geoffrey Groselle and guard Will Cummings as guys who may be granted Polish citizenship.
Groselle is a 28-year-old who played in Poland last season, representing Stelmet Zielona Gora. The 2.13 m big man averaged 14.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 16.3 PIR over 25.3 in the VTB United League last year.
Cummings had never played in Poland before. However, he also competed in the VTB League last season, representing Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar and accumulating 14.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 13.8 PIR.
Groselle is currently playing in Italy for Fortitudo Bologna, while Cummings transferred to France and represents Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92.
The Polish NT has a new coach Igor Milicic who replaced long-time coach Mike Taylor. Milicic said that initially, he did not consider naturalizing a new player but now believes that not doing so would hurt Polish basketball.
"If there is a need and we see that there is a need for strengthening in a given position, adding quality to young players, we will go in this direction. Slaughter or someone else - these are of secondary importance at the moment.
