Zeljko Obradovic: 'The 10th EuroLeague title is not my goal in life' / News - Basketnews.com
Partizan NIS Belgrade head coach Zeljko Obradovic talked about consulting the late and great Dusan Ivkovic regarding his return to Partizan, expressed his personal goals, and praised Partizan fans.
Obradovic said that Dusan Ivkovic thought the transfer to Partizan was a risky decision, but Zeljko disagreed.
"I explained to him that it was not a question of risk. Everything in life is a kind of risk. If you cross the street, that's kind of risk - that's life," Obradovic said to sport.gr.
"People think that coming to Partizan is a risk because they think about my career. Everyone asks me if I am thinking about the tenth title in the EuroLeague, but if I choose to return to Partizan, then it is clear that I am not thinking about it. That is not my goal in life. My goal is to have my own players and to work and enjoy them to a great extent."
The Serbian basketball specialist also explained what he would have done had his goal been winning his tenth Turkish Airlines EuroLeague title.
"If I were chasing the tenth title, I would probably patiently wait for the chance to join a great team. I want a different motivation in my life. I thought it was time to return to Partizan now or never again. After 28 years, I can live in my country, work in my club."
Lastly, Zeljko took the time to thank Partizan fans for their loyalty and talk about the thing they value most.
"One thing I know is that the people who are in Partizan and its fans have an amazing loyalty. Before the pre-season game against Anadolu Efes, I told the players: 'Listen, the fans will forgive you if you play badly, but they will never forgive you if you don't fight, if you don't give 100 percent.' The only risk is if we don't fight. The results and the rest - that's another story."
