The German side had a terrible night from outside and struggled to score. The French side won away from home 71-67 (18-13, 21-13, 12-15, 24-22) behind the great performance of Chris Jones.
Asvel entered the final quarter up by 6 points (49-43) and started strong, extending the lead to 14 points with an 8-0 run (57-43).
ALBA kept playing with intensity and grabbed several offensive boards, but they struggled to score, shooting only 16% from the three-point line.
The hosts didn’t give up despite the poor offensive percentages, and thanks to great offensive rebounding and a couple of three-pointers, they were able to cut down the lead to just 5 points with 34 seconds left on the clock (63-68).
ASVEL kept its composure in the final seconds, not missing any free throws, and secured the win.
“Twenty turnovers is way too many in a game like this,” T.J. Parker said after the game. “And Berlin, you have to give them credit. They played with a lot of intensity.”
“Our team made a good fight and got the stops we needed to get the W. We can win games in the EuroLeague with defense. The offense comes and goes. If we can take care of the basketball and make shots, we’re a good team,” he concluded.
Maodo Lo was the top scorer for ALBA Berlin, he finished with 22 points (3/6 2PT, 4/8 3PT, 4/5 FT), 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 turnover, 1 steal, and 20 PIR.
Chris Jones was the main guy for ASVEL with the following stat line: 24 points (6/9 2PT, 3/5 3PT, 3/3 FT), 2 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 20 PIR.
Jones, the MVP of the night, expressed his satisfaction after the win over ALBA.
“The objective was to get stops and keep them off the offensive rebounds. We really didn’t do too good of a job with the offensive rebounds - especially on the road.
But we got stops when we needed them, and we executed down the stretch. We believe in each other. We have confidence. We’re trying to build something right now. Today was a big win for us, and hopefully, we just keep it going,” Jones said.
ALBA: Maodo Lo 22, Oscar Da Silva 14 (6 REB).
ASVEL: Chris Jones 24, Elie Okobo 13 (7 REB).
