Even though Kyrie was allowed to practice with the team in New York without getting vaccinated, the team ultimately decided to keep him away from the team until he is eligible to be a full participant.
"Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant," Nets GM Sean Marks said.
"Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently, the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability."
Irving averaged 26.9 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 34.9 minutes over 54 games last season. He became the ninth player in league history to post a 50-40-90 season in the previous year.
