Bertomeu's handling of finances raises complaints by the majority of EuroLeague shareholders / News - Basketnews.com
EuroLeague Basketball CEO Jordi Bertomeu's authority remains in question since eight clubs raised questions about financial issues at the Board Meeting held in Barcelona.
As reported by Gazzetta.gr, today (19/10) the 13 shareholder teams with multi-year licenses will have further discussions -possibly without Jordi Bertomeu- regarding the future plans of the organization.
At the moment, eight clubs appear to have serious complaints about the Spanish executive director: Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Zalgiris Kaunas, Anadolu Efes, Armani Milan, Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow.
Per the same report, essentially only Real Madrid, Barcelona and Baskonia are still on his side, while Fenerbahce and ASVEL are keeping a more neutral stance.
During Monday's meeting, the eight aforementioned clubs cornered Bertomeu by raising questions and queries about financial issues and excessive expenses managed by the Spanish CEO.
After the last crisis in the relationship with Bertomeu and some of the shareholders' teams, EuroLeague allowed clubs to have more power in the executive and administrative decisions.
"It's difficult for changes to take place in the middle of the season, but all indications point to Jordi Bertomeu retiring from his post next summer," the report concludes.
