Wizards star Bradley Beal (hip) sits out vs. Pacers / News - Basketnews.com
Washington Wizards star guard Bradley Beal sat out Friday's home game against the Indiana Pacers due to a right hip injury.
Beal was injured during the team's season-opening 98-83 win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.
"He's still a little sore. I think out of a bit of caution, I think it's just prudent of us to give him today, get him more treatment," Washington coach Wes Unseld Jr. said prior to Friday's game.
"He was treated twice yesterday and this morning. We know he's a tough kid and he would obviously want to play. But I think it's smart just to see that he's completely healthy going into next week."
Beal scored 23 points and had four steals in 34 minutes against the Raptors.
Washington's third game of the season is Monday at the Brooklyn Nets.
"We anticipate him being available for Monday," Unseld said. "I don't foresee any residual effects. It just seemed like it was a pain threshold at this point and a little bit of mobility. Beyond that, there was nothing structural or anything worrisome."
Beal, a three-time All-Star, has finished second in the NBA in scoring in each of the past two seasons.
Beal averaged 31.3 points per game last season to finish behind the Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry (32.0). He had a 30.5 average in 2019-20 as the runner-up to James Harden (34.3), who was with the Houston Rockets at the time.
