"It‘s been a hell of a journey and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it," Andersen said. "I’ve had a great time, many adventures in many parts of the world, enjoyed every step of the way, and enjoyed all the relationships along the way."

"I’d love to thank my family, brothers, sisters, parents, wife, and everyone that supported me along the years. To all my friends that traveled around the world to watch me play certain games, and then obviously to the fans, that’s why we play the game," he added.

Nevertheless, the 41-year-old continues to be a part of basketball, as he joins the NBL in a Player Liaison and Special Projects role.

"I can’t wait to get started at NBL HQ. The NBL is the second-best league in the world and is home to some of the globe’s best basketball players," told David Andersen.

"Playing conditions in the NBL are already at a world-class level and I hope my voice and opinions can make the NBL an even better place for players to play."

Last season Andersen spent with Melbourne United and finished it on a high note, becoming the NBL champion. It was his second title in the homeland.

The Australian big man is a three-time EuroLeague champion. He won the titles in 2001 (Kinder Bologna), 2006 (CSKA Moscow), and 2008 (CSKA Moscow).

Andersen was also a member of the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2005.

The 37th overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft had the stints across the Atlantic. He played with the Houston Rockets (2009-10), Toronto Raptors (2010), and New Orleans Hornets (2010-11).

David Andersen has NBA averages of 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in 103 games.

The 2.11-meter athlete became a staple of the Boomers’ program after his debut at the 2003 Olympic Qualifying FIBA Oceania Championship.

He played for his country until 2017 and participated in four Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016).
