Report: Bulls F Patrick Williams (wrist) out for season / News - Basketnews.com
Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams will require surgery on his left wrist and is expected to miss four to six months, the team announced Friday.
Williams will undergo an operation to repair torn ligaments in the wrist following an injury that occurred Thursday night in Chicago's 104-103 home loss to the New York Knicks.
ESPN originally reported that Williams' surgery would be season-ending.
Williams, 20, landed on his wrist on a drive to the rim after getting tangled up in the air with Knicks center Mitchell Robinson.
Williams left the game with 9:42 remaining in the third quarter and did not return. He finished with six points and two rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
Bulls coach Billy Donovan called it a "pretty significant wrist injury" on Friday but said there's a chance Williams could return in time for the playoffs.
Williams, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, is averaging 6.6 points and 2.2 rebounds through five starts this season. He started 71 of the Bulls' 72 games as a rookie last season and averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 27.9 minutes per contest.
