Stefan Markovic returns to Serbia for Crvena Zvezda / News - Basketnews.com

After parting ways with Virtus Bologna, Stefan Markovic was looking for the next destination in his career. Crvenza Zvezda was on the market for a point guard and the deal between the two sides came naturally.

The Serbian side announced the signing of the experienced player until the end of the 2022-23 season, as coach Dejan Radonjic was after a floor general who could intensify the competition in the team and bring extra quality to his roster.The former international brings loads of EuroLeague experience to Red Star, as he has contested 91 games at Europe's top level, averaging 4.9 points and 4.0 assists in 23 minutes with Unicaja Malaga (2014-16) and Khimki (2017-19). His signing with Zvezda signals his return to his native country after eleven years spent abroad.

The 33-year-old Belgrade-born guard won the Italian League with his last team to date, Virtus Bologna, in 2021. He has also played for Hemofarm, Benetton Treviso, Valencia, Banvit and Zenit.

He finished the 2020-21 season averaging 3.6 points on 32,6% three-point shots, 3.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists in 20 games with the Italian powerhouse, who reached the EuroCup semi-finals.Markovic has also won three silver medals with Serbia. The first came at the 2009 EuroBasket, the second at the World Cup in 2014. year, and the last one at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
