The Brooklyn Nets guard and Australian basketball star Patty Mills has been named as the ACT‘s Australian of the Year nominee, abc.net.au reports.

He was named alongside three other notable Canberrans, each nominated in the Senior, Young, and Local Hero categories.
All four individuals were honoured for their tireless volunteerism and a common purpose inhelping others no matter their background.
Unable to play basketball for a period of time last year due to COVID-19, he put it to good use, investing in his many charities and causes.
That included launching Indigenous Basketball Australia, which provides pathways and skill development for young basketballers with ambitions to play at the top level.
He also became involved in the We Got You initiative, which aims to stamp out discrimination in sport, and worked on his own foundation, Team Mills.
This summer Mills helped the Australian basketball team to win its first medal in the Summer Olympics. Australia 107-93 beat Slovenia in the bronze medal game.
