FC Bayern Munich dropped out of the German Cup, losing in the quarter-finals to a team that is 4-3 in the German Basketball Bundesliga, Niners Chemnitz, 80-85 (26-21, 13-23, 14-28, 27-13).

Bayern managed to cut their deficit to one point with 1:26 remaining in the fourth after Vladimir Lucic's 3-pointer (80-81), but Darion Atkins answered on the other end to give Chemnitz a three-point cushion with 29 seconds remaining (83-80).

Darrun Hilliard missed a 3-pointer on the other end, Atkins converted a free throw for Chemnitz, as they celebrated a five-point upset victory.

Even though Bayern won the first quarter by five (26-21), they lost momentum in the second period. They were up by 11 at the start of the second (32-21), but Chemnitz finished the quarter on a 23-7 run to go up by five (44-39).

Bayern fell into an even deeper hole in the third period, scoring just 14 points against 28 by Chemnitz (53-72).

Darion Atkins led the winners with 21 points (7/11 2PT, 1/2 3PT, 4/5 FT), 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks, 3 turnovers, and 28 PIR.

Andreas Obst was the best scorer for Bayern, ending with 18 points (6/8 3PT), 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 turnover, and 17 PIR.
