For the second straight season, Atlanta Hawks forward De'Andre Hunter is going to miss significant time due to injury.

Hunter tore a tendon in his right wrist against the Golden State Warriors on Monday and will need to undergo surgery. The procedure, which will take place Monday in Los Angeles, is expected to sideline Hunter for approximately eight weeks.

Hunter, the fourth pick in the 2019 draft, saw action in 62 of the Hawks' 67 games as a rookie. He was limited to 23 games last season due to a knee injury and then sat out the majority of Atlanta's run to the Eastern Conference Finals.

If Hunter returns eight weeks from Monday, he will miss 29 games, including the three he has already sat out since suffering the injury. The 23-year-old is averaging 10.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 27.8 minutes, all career lows.

The Hawks sit at a disappointing 5-9 on the young season, although they defeated the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday. Their next game is Monday against the Orlando Magic.
