Blatt speaks on multiple sclerosis: 'There's no cure and the key is to be honest with yourself' / News - Basketnews.com
David Blatt was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis (MS) back in 2019. Since then, one of the most brilliant minds in European basketball has been trying to make this disease more visible.
The American coach spoke about it and other topics in an interview made by DAZN Spain.
"You wake up every day, and they are not always good. But you assume and face it," Blatt has revealed. "The key is to be honest with yourself, knowing your limits, where you can make an extra effort, being positive."
"There is no cure for these difficult illnesses. It has a lot to do with your motivation and trying to be the best version of yourself, and as a coach, I've always asked that of my players, and now I'm asking it of myself," continued one-time Euroleague champion.
Blatt also said that despite the challenges, multiple sclerosis isn't the end of life.
"Your life doesn't end with multiple sclerosis. It's just a challenge you have to face, and you have to almost welcome that opportunity to prove yourself and be the best version you can be," said Blatt.
Apart from this topic, Blatt shared his opinion about Ricky Rubio's development, admitting he always trusts him.
"I have always loved Ricky Rubio. He is an amazing player. The Cavaliers have made a great decision by signing him thissummer. As Corbalan or Laso, he makes his teammates better.
It's interesting to see how he has improved through his career, especially on his shooting. He is now a good shooter, making him more impactful on the court," said Blatt, who coached in Cleveland between 2014 and 2016.
Blatt also praised Spanish basketball and how it has influenced his coaching career.
"Spanish basketball and Spanish coaches and players have always made me better. I have learned a lot about Spanish basketball, the world of sports in Spain, and the Spanish people. It has always been an honor for me and I have improved thanks to it", he concluded.
