Panathinaikos have been targetting free agent guard Stefan Jovic since last summer. The two sides didn't go any further, as the Greens decided against making an offer to the Serb who was injured at the time.

However, their interest in potentially signing him has not vanished. In fact, Yogi Ferrell's recent departure to Cedevita Olimpija has left the Greek side with seven non-domestic players and also with one point guard less. Center Jehyve Floyd could be the next to go through the exit door but the American big does not seem eager to give up on his contract.

Ideally, coach Dimitris Priftis would like to cut down the number of non-Greek players to seven or six, even if Jovic were to be added to the roster. The 31-year-old EuroLeague veteran, who played with Khimki for the last two seasons, is in Belgrade, where he watched his ex-team Crvena Zvezda take down Cibona Zagreb on Monday night.

Panathinaikos had been scanning the market in search of a pass-first guard before they decided to sign Yogi Ferrell. As it turned out, the former NBA player wasn't even close to what the Greens were expecting and the two sides parted ways in less than two months.

PAO management are concerned about Jovic being injury-prone, as the experienced floor general got hurt during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Serbia last June.

He has been sidelined ever since, but he's expected to be ready for a comeback by the end of 2021 or at the beginning of 2022.

Jovic averaged 4.4 points, 3.8 assists in 23 minutes across 8 EuroLeague games in the 2020-21 campaign. He has been named German League champion twice with FC Bayern Munich (2018, 2019), while he has also lifted three ABA League titles with Crvena Zvezda (2015, 2016, 2017).
