I am happy about what I have lived with Lavrio. I work hard on my game, so I think I can adjust to anything that comes my way," the guard currently playing for Greek sideLavrio Megabolttold Greek Public Television ERT.
"I am a 'student' of basketball and I am gradually building my career. The most important thing is basketball, this is what I will stay focused on and this is my 'passport'. I love Lavrio and its people, I will always be grateful to coach Christos Serelis, who gave me the opportunity to take the next step," Carter told the Greek media outlet.
Although not openly admitting his forthcoming move to Zenit, the 23-year-old American athlete responded to Keith Langford, who congratulated him on the next big step in his career.
Carter started his professional path in 2020, joining his first and only team yet, Lavrio. He had drawn some serious interest from some EuroLeague teams, like Olympiacos.
According to several reports stemming from Greek media, Carter’s signing with the "Reds" was almost a foregone conclusion, with the only question revolving around whether he should stay on the roster or rather be loaned out to a lower-caliber team. Apart from the three-time EuroLeague champs, Zalgiris supposedly also got in the mix, vying for his signature.
Talking to BasketNews.com last September, Carter admitted thathis side “had some discussions” with the Greek powerhouse. “I talked to them a little bit but ultimately I went to the Summer League and after that, I decided to go back to Lavrio,” he said. However, as soon as the tournament was over, the "Reds" didn’t proceed with his case. “I don’t know actually what happened, I’m not sure,” he quibbled.
This season the 1.93-meter guard is averaging 17.6 points (66.7% 2PT, 52.4% 3PT), 1.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, 3.2 turnovers, and 12.2 PIR over 5 Basketball Champions League games (25 minutes of playing).
Carter is posting 16.5 points (40.4% 3PT), 2.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 15.9 PIR in 11 Greek Basket League matches (28.5 minutes).
Zenit are still missing Shabazz Napier in their guards' department, who suffered an ankle injury in the pre-season stage.
