Good news is about to reach the Panathinaikos OPAP Athens camp ahead of today's Euroleague match against Zalgiris Kaunas. According to George Zakkas from SDNA.gr, the Greek powerhouse is close to signing Serbian guard Stefan Jovic.

The two sides are in the final stages of an agreement and it is very likely that the 31-year-old will join the green-and-whites in the next few days, Zakkas reports.

Jovic will not replace a player from the existing roster, giving another opportunity to Kendrick Perry to prove his worth. The Serbian will be added as an extra foreign player taking time in the Euroleague and the next move will depend on his level of readiness.

Jovic has rich biography in the Euroleague where he has played for seven years with Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade, FC Bayern Munich, and Khimki Moscow Region. He holds the all-time Euroleague record for assists in a single game with 15 in a match against Bayern Munich in 2015.

It has not been a successful start of the season for Panathinaikos. The once-formidable club now sits 17th in the Euroleague standings with 4 wins and 13 losses. The Greeks play versus Zalgiris Kaunas today in a match of underperforming teams.

PAO has been hit hard with COVID-19 lately, with 6 players and 1 staff member diagnosed with the virus. Zalgiris coach Jure Zdovc revealed yesterday that Nemanja Nedovic, Leonidas Kaselakis, and Jeremy Evans will not play in the green battle, while Howard Sant-Roos is uncertain.

The Greek giant will also miss their head coach as Dimitris Priftis is not expected to be at OAKA during the match. His assistant Vassilis Simtsak, who led Panathinaikos to an easy win against Lavrio in the Greek Cup match this week, is expected to take his place.
