After finishing last season with a record of 22-50, the Ohio team has been one of the league's surprises so far, boasting a 20-14 record this year, enough for a 5th place in the Eastern Conference.
According to ESPN research producer Matt Williams, the Cavaliers have had a +16.1 net efficiency when Ricky Rubio and Darius Garland have shared the floor this season. That is the best of any 2-man lineup to play 500 minutes together this year.
The head coach of the Spanish national team Sergio Scariolo was heartbroken but optimistic.
"Having seen you overcome much more difficult moments with courage and strength reassures me and makes me sure that you will return, as you have always done, better than you were," Scariolo expressed in his tweet.
"Stuff happens," Real Madrid head coach Pablo Laso noted. "Get well soon, alright, and come back with a smile."
FC Barcelona superstar Nikola Mirotic wished Rubio well after hearing about the news. "Keep your head up crack, I'm sure you will come back stronger," the Montenegrin-Spanish forward expressed.
