Commenting on the situation in Athens, Zalgiris sports director Paulius Motiejunas said that Panathinaikos were not obliged to take coronavirus tests, but everything was dictated by the deteriorating condition of the players.
"It's a poor situation," said Motiejunas. "Although Panathinaikos did not have to take tests, they did it for precaution. Several players felt unwell and received positive test results. According to our information, there are only six healthy players, so the match is postponed."
Zalgiris found out about the postponed duel by practically sitting on a bus to the OAKA Arena.
"Everything came to our notice 30 minutes before leaving for the game. And we didn't know everything exactly yet, because only the club informed us. The league itself had not received any documents. When we had to get on the bus for the match, we received a call, confirming that the game was postponed," told Motiejunas.
He also revealed that there is a lot of anxiety about next week's home match versus Olympiacos Piraeus. The Reds have currently reported nine coronavirus cases in the team (seven players and two staff members).
"We don't know yet, we're talking to the league. We are asking them to inform us. Olympiacos say there aren't many chances, but the league needs to confirm the information. I think we will know the exact situation at the beginning of next week," spoke Paulius Motiejunas.
Zalgiris will return to Kaunas tomorrow morning, while the squad will use the free evening for team dinner.
