Three Australian Federal Court judges on Sunday sided with Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s decision made to cancel the Serb’s visa on public interest grounds. Shortly after the ruling, federal agents escorted Djokovic to the airport in Melbourne.
Chicago Bulls superstar Nikola Vucevic was not particularly happy with the decision and took it to Twitter to express his view on the situation. "What happened to Djokovic is just politicians using their power to show off and get extra followers," the Montenegrin center said.
"It has nothing to do with Covid or visa issues, they used him to try to make themselves look better," Vucevic continued. "Very sad how they treated a First Class Champion!"
The Bulls center continued his thoughts with a second tweet afterward. "Also to me, the saddest thing in this whole Djokovic thing was that only two of his colleagues stood by his side, everyone else got scared…unbelievable," Vucevic expressed.
New York Knicks guardEvan Fournierwas not that nice to Vucevic. The French player did not use many words, but he let his opinion be known: "Na bro."
Several sports people responded to the tweet. Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios expressed his remorse about the situation. "I'm sorry. Wish we could have done more," Kyrgios tweeted in response.
Even the Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade team chimed in into the situation, expressing their support for the local athlete amidst worldwide chaos. "Just for you, always with you," the club wrote in their Instagram post following the deportation order.
