Former NBA and EuroLeague player Sonny Weems has been involved in the racial incident from basketball fans in China.

The whole incident happened after the Southern Tigers game against Liaoning Flying Tigers. During the game, Weems got into a fight with Chinese player Han Dejun. Both of them were ejected.
Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) published a statement saying that CBA has a "zero-tolerance attitude toward any discriminatory words or deeds. Moreover, in an open letter to fans, CBA asked them not to engage in uncivilized behavior and vulgar words.
CBA's president also made a statement regarding the incident.
"There's bound to be traffic on bridges, so sometimes we see collisions," he told reporters. "It may take some time to resolve some issues, but we want to keep the bridges intact."
Throughout his career, Weems played for such teams as the Denver Nuggets, Toronto Raptors, Zalgiris Kaunas, CSKA Moscow, Phoenix Suns, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Anadolu Efes.
He was included in All-EuroLeague First Team in 2014. Weems also became CBA champion thrice (from 2019 to 2021).
