The NBA on Sunday suspended Milwaukee Bucks guard Grayson Allen for one game without pay for his flagrant 2 foul on Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso on Friday night.

Byron Spruell, president of league operations, announced the suspension, saying Allen made "unnecessary and excessive contact" with Caruso, resulting in "substantial injury" to the Bulls' guard. Allen was ejected from the game.

Caruso will be out six to eight weeks after suffering a fractured right wrist on the play, which occurred with 5:45 remaining in the third period of the Bucks' 94-90 win in Milwaukee.

Allen will serve his suspension Wednesday night when the Bucks (30-19) play the Cavaliers (28-19) in Cleveland. On the play that got him ejected, Allen tried to block Caruso with his left hand near the rim on a fast break but instead caught his arm while both players were airborne.

Allen then hit Caruso with his right arm after the players' first contact. Caruso fell to the ground, holding his wrist in pain.

"The play Grayson Allen made has no place in basketball," Bulls forward Nikola Vucevic said. "It's a very, very dirty play."

After the game, Bulls coach Billy Donovan said the play was "dangerous" but was typical of Allen's style of play.

"For Alex to be in the air and for (Allen) to take him down like that, he could've ended his career," Donovan said. "He has a history of this. That to me was really -- it was really dangerous. I hope the league takes a hard look at something like that because that could have really, really seriously hurt him."

Allen is averaging 11.8 points a game this season while Caruso is at 8.4.
