Former Utah Jazz point guard and Hall of Famer John Stockton has recently made headlines about his comments on the global pandemic. Another Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spoke to CNN to express his opinion on the matter.

According to Abdul-Jabbar, such comments damage professional athletes' reputations. "I think statements like that make the public look upon athletes basically as dumb jocks, for trying to explain away something that is obviously a pandemic."

"It doesn’t make sense what he’s saying. This is a preventative measure that has been useful in many different circumstances," the legendary center continued. "I don’t understand anyone saying anything else."

During the interview, Stockton went on with his theories, asserting that more than 100 professional athletes have died of vaccination. He also said tens of thousands of people – perhaps millions – have died from vaccines.

"I think John’s reaction to the vaccine is extreme and not based on reality or facts," Abdul-Jabbar expressed." If John could just check the facts out he would understand that this vaccine is saving lives and preventing people from having serious reactions to the virus."

Recently, Gonzaga University suspended Stockton's season tickets for failing to comply with the university's mask mandate. Following the suspension, the all-time NBA assists and steals leader let his opinion be known to the world.

"I think it’s highly recorded now, there’s 150 I believe now, it’s over 100 professional athletes dead – professional athletes – the prime of their life, dropping dead that are vaccinated, right on the pitch, right on the field, right on the court," Stockton said in an interview to The Spokesman-Review.

It is worth noting that despite what Stockton maintains, no athletes' deaths have been reported as a result of the COVID vaccine. Furthermore, as of now, no peer-reviewed medical study has proven any correlation between the vaccine and severe illness or death.

Abdul-Jabbar has been known as a stout advocate for COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination overall. The legendary Lakers and Bucks center is one of the most respected members of the NBA community and one of the most active proponents of education since the start of the pandemic.
