Luka Doncic gets zero All-Star media votes, can still make the cut / News - Basketnews.com
Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic didn't make the cut after two consecutive seasons of starting on All-Star Weekend. The 22-year-old guard wasn’t named an All-Star starter when the NBA announced the top-10 selections for this season Thursday night on TNT. Although Doncic has picked up his game lately, his sluggish start to the 2021-22 season was the biggest reason for him not being able to make it as a starter this time around.

Fan (50%), player (25%) and media (25%) votes select the starters. The formula to determine a player’s score is: (Fan Rank x 2 + Player Rank + Media Rank)/4.
Doncic missed his chance -for now, at least- to become the first Maverick to start three All-Star games. But when head coaches choose the seven reserves from each conference next Thursday, he is certain to make the Feb. 20 showcase in Cleveland.
The Slovenian has missed 15 games so far (the most in any of his four NBA seasons) with left ankle and knee sprains, a right ankle sprain and COVID. He’s averaging 25.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 8.7 assists over 34 games this season. The scoring and passing statistics rank 12th and 5th-best in the league but would mark his lowest season averages since his rookie year. The Western Conference NBA All-Star starters include Ja Morant, LeBron James, Steph Curry, Nikola Jokic and Andrew Wiggins, who will get his first NBA All-Star game start. The Eastern Conference NBA All-Star starters include: DeMar DeRozan, Trae Young, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Another notable absence from the starting lineup was Rudy Gobert who received votes from 64 out of 98 media members and came in 3rd in the Western Conference. Gobert's overall contributed rank from media was only 0.75% lower than Wiggins' as a result of this.
Despite players ranking him 4th and the media ranking him 3rd, he finished with an average ranking of 6.25, probably due to the Utah Jazz belonging to a smaller market.
