Anthony was outraged that some fans taunted him during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 105-87 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, saying the harassment was “unacceptable.” The incidents caused the referees and players from both teams to interfere during the game. With 7 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Anthony had a dispute with a fan standing behind a row of seats near center court at the Wells Fargo Center. Anthony later said that a fan called him “boy”.
The game was suspended for several minutes while security personnel approached the scene of the collision and the referees escorted Anthony away from the scene."Some things were said," Anthony said afterward, according to ESPN.
"Unacceptable. I'm cool with fans heckling, fans talking trash, cheering for their team, booing the other team, I'm all for that. But when you cross certain lines, as a man, you just, that's what you're going to see. That's what you're going to get, as you saw there."According to Anthony, while things were being sorted out, another fan sitting in the yard also taunted the player using offensive language.
Sixers center Joel Embiid sided with Anthony when a fan on the court tried to escalate the situation.“I was just trying to calm things down because they were just going back and forth and I really wanted to just go home and finish the game,” Embiid said. “So yeah, that’s what I wanted to calm things down so we can play and move on.”A spokesman for the Sixers told ESPN that one fan was kicked out and that further discipline would be the responsibility of the Wells Fargo Center. “Unacceptable language and unacceptable fan behavior is the easiest way to put it,” Lakers coach Frank Vogel said. “There should be a higher standard. And I hope they get it right.”Anthony finished with 9 points on 11 shot attempts as the Lakers fell to the 76ers.
“You play through heckles. But it’s all fun and games,” he said. “I mean, I’ve been doing this for 19-20 years. Especially when playing in Philadelphia, it was a great place to come and play. I know what the fans are here. But there are certain things you don’t bring to any sporting event. There are certain things you don’t tell anyone. If I were outside and ran into you and you told me these things, it would be a whole different story.”
