He missed five games, then returned to the Clippers for two matches in late December before being shelved again. He last played on December 22.
He will undergo an MRI on February 24 to see how his elbow has responded to the time off, but the president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said it would not be the sole determining factor in whether George is able to play again this season.
"You don't treat the MRI, you treat the player," Frank said. "So when the MRI comes in, it's not a 'boom' that all of a sudden is a 'Eureka' moment for what we do. I think it's just part of the process."
If George has the surgery, the 31-year-old will miss the remainder of the season, ESPN reported.
George, a seven-time All-Star and first-team All-NBA selection in 2018-19, is in his 12th NBA season. In 732 career games (684 starts) with the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Clippers, the 31-year-old has averages of 20.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
Limited to 26 games this season, he's averaging 24.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.
Moreover, the LA Clippers have been without All-NBA forward Kawhi Leonard all season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He is currently rehabbing after last June's setback.
Coach Tyronn Lue on Thursday said the Clippers "know Kawhi's probably not gonna come back."
"I think the best answer is we don't know," Lawrence Frank spoke regarding Leonard's condition. "He grinds every single day. He works. His focus is on his rehab... No one knows."
Leonard entered his third campaign with the Clippers. He averaged 27.1 points in 57 games his first season and 24.8 points in 52 games last season.
Overall, Leonard is averaging 19.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 10 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs (2011-18), Toronto Raptors (2018-19), and Clippers.
Leonard is a two-time NBA Finals MVP - winning the award with the Spurs in 2014 and Raptors in 2019.
The Clippers are currently at the eighth spot in the Western Conference with a record of 27 wins and 27 losses.
