"I haven't played much in the last month or so. I've had a lot of time to practice. I feel like the shooting is there," commented Bertans, per ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Though, Bertans is having a down year until this moment. After signing a five-year, $80 million deal with the Wizards in November 2020, he's averaging just 5.7 points in 34 games off the bench (14.7 minutes) this season.
Nevertheless, the 29-year-old is expecting to have a good connection with Mavs superstar Luka Doncic and looks forward to Slovenian wunderkind's dimes.
"I'm not a guy who takes the ball, creates something for myself, and then shoots. If I don't get set up by a teammate, it's really hard for me to get a rhythm going. Getting shots every 10, 15 minutes, it's really hard to get that percentage up," spoke the Dallas newcomer.
He also touched on the topic regarding his messages with Kristaps Porzingis, with whom he exchanged the teams. Bertans said that he and KP texted as the trade news broke.
They initially thought they'd be playing with each other until they found out they were being traded for each other.
The Dallas Mavericks have traded Kristaps Porzingisto the Washington Wizards in exchange forSpencer DinwiddieandDavis Bertans. Mavs also sent a second-round pick in the deal to Washington.
As claimed by Mark Cuban, the trade was a simple decision for him and he is satisfied with the outcome.
"I think Kristaps Porzingis is an incredible talent, but we needed a shooter (Davis Bertans) and another ball handler (Spencer Dinwiddie), who could create a shot. Unfortunately, that was the only way we were going to get them," Cuban said to The Dallas Morning News.
"It was that simple, getting two guys who fill roles that we really needed, and the fact that we have played okay without KP," added Mavericks owner.
Davis Bertans is set to make his Mavs debut on Wednesday against the Miami Heat.
