ASVEL prevail in double-overtime thriller against Monaco / News - Basketnews.com

French big match between ASVEL (13-6) and Monaco (12-7) was an instant classic. In a double-overtime thriller, ASVEL prevailed 87-79 (14-7, 11-22, 22-13, 17-22, 23-15) after a very entertaining match.

During the final seconds of the second overtime, ASVEL kept their lead thanks to a series of free throws and in the end, they were able to win the game.

ASVEL started the second overtime with a 7-0 run (79-72). With a little bit more than one minute left on the clock, Mike James cut down ASVEL's lead to just four points (81-77)

In the first overtime, despite a four-point lead with a minute and a half remaining (72-68) ASVEL couldn't keep control and Will Thomas with four consecutive points tied the game to send it to the second overtime (72-72)

With less than one second remaining on the clock, Mike James found Alpha Diallo for an alley-oop that tied the game to send it to the overtime.

ASVEL entered into the final quarter with a five-point lead (47-42) and the game remained extremely close until the very end. With a minute and a half remaining on the clock, Marcos Knight gave ASVEL a six-point lead (64-58), then Westermann and Mike James reduced the gap to just two points (64-62).

In the third quarter, ASVEL were revitalized by the performances of Marcos Knight and Matthew Strazel. The two guards gave a strong offensive boost to ASVEL's offense, contributing to the 22 points scored by their team in the third period, while Monaco struggled to contain ASVEL on the perimeter.

The first half was a low-scoring one. Monaco only had 7 points in the first quarter, with Chris Jones leading ASVEL to a 7-point lead (14-7), but in the second quarter the situation changed. Monaco scored 22 points, limiting ASVEL to just 11 points in the quarter and going in the locker room with a four-point lead (29-25).

Marcos Knight was the top scorer for ASVEL with 21 points (7/12 2PT, 1/3 3PT, 4/4 FT), 11 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Mike James was the top scorer for Monaco with 23 points (7/19 2PT, 1/8 3PT, 6/7 FT), 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
