The Greek specialist thanked the organization for showing support in his whole coaching period (2018-22).

The 54-year-old arrived in Tel Aviv from a four-year stint with Olympiacos Piraeus.

He managed to navigate Maccabi to three Israeli League titles in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Moreover, he became the champion of the Israeli Cup in 2021.

Full message:

"I want to especially thank the owners of Maccabi Tel Aviv for giving me the opportunity to coach this legendary club. I want to thank all the players that I coached over the past four seasons for their cooperation.

I would also like to thank the management, the coaches, the members of the staff, and the people in the offices of Maccabi for the great working relationship we had. I only made friends in Maccabi.

Last, but not least, I want to thank each and every one of the fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv for all the love that they showed me. These moments of love will always live in a very special place in my heart.

Unfortunately, we did not perform well as of late, even though we tried to lift our team off a difficult situation. I am leaving the club that I love, knowing that I worked these past four seasons having embraced and showcased the 'Maccabist Mentality' and the fighting spirit that characterizes this club. Working with a lot of respect, pride, dignity, and great professionalism.

Good luck to everybody in the club of Maccabi for the road ahead."
