Israel (2-1) welcomed Germany (2-1) in the Group D of FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.

Germany edged out the hosts 71-67 (12-15, 23-18, 14-18, 22-16) and handed them the first defeat in the competition.

Led by Tomer Ginat, Israel ran away from their opponents in the mid-second quarter (28-17), however, Germany responded with a 13-1 run and created a minimal advantage (30-29).

After the close third period, everything came to light at the end of the game. Germany arranged an 8-1 mini spurt and built a 5-point lead (65-60) with 1:50 to go.

Germany fended off the last effort by Israel, while clutch Robin Benzing's triple sealed the deal for the visitors with 36 seconds left on the clock (71-65).

Justus Hollatz was the top performer for the Germans, posting 16 points (3/7 2PT, 3/3 3PT, 1/2 FT), 2 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 turnovers, and 19 PIR.

Robin Benzing had 17 points (2/4 2PT, 3/12 3PT, 4/4 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 block, and 12 PIR.

Tomer Ginat led Israel with 20 points (6/6 2PT, 1/2 3PT, 5/6 FT), 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 turnovers, and 26 PIR.
