The former MVP returned to practice this week, but an apparent setback has led to what is being characterized by the Knicks as a "minor" follow-up procedure.
Earlier this week, the Knicks shut down guard Kemba Walker for the remainder of the season, leading to belief that Rose was set to rejoin an underperforming second unit.
The Knicks return from the All-Star break Friday at home against the Miami Heat having lost seven of their past eight games.
Rose has played in just 26 games this season, scoring 12.0 points with 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists mostly off the bench.
In 13 NBA seasons with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, and Knicks, Rose has averaged 18.2 points with 3.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists.
