Moneke blames Llovet for racism: 'Trash talk is fine but I will never let racist comments go' / News - Basketnews.com
Chima Moneke accused Nacho Llovet of pouring out racist comments towards the Nigerian athlete.
Yesterday BAXI Manresa demolished Andorra MoraBanc, 94-60 (17-14, 19-7, 24-22, 24-17), at home in the ACB League.
Though, the center of MoraBanc, Nacho Llovet, and the power forward of Manresa, Chima Moneke, had friction throughout the clash, coming to face each other defiantly at some point.
After the blowout victory, Moneke went on Twitter and expressed his dissatisfaction with the opponent's comments during the match.
"Trash talk is fine but when you make racist comments, I will never let it go. Nacho Llovet, you have black teammates so it's sad that you think that way," the 26-year-old wrote.
BAXI Manresa head coach Pedro Martinez upheld Moneke's tweet. He assured post-game that "we all know Llovet. He has been in the Spanish league for many years and has had problems with many players".
Later, both Llovet and the Andorra club denied the serious accusations.
"I have been in the league for 12 years and everyone, who knows me, knows it: I have never had any problem with anyone, neither teammate nor rival. I have not said anything racist to Moneke and I am sorry that he has chosen this path. It is not pleasant at all to have to respond to something like that," said Andorra player.
"The tweet is totally false. An inexplicable interpretation of an argument between the two. The statement is so serious and unacceptable that it forces us to answer. It's not true and, of course, Nacho Llovetit's not racist. Many colleagues and rivals can explain it," official Andorra's Twitter account responded to Chima Moneke.
