This might have been the last Gregg Popovich coached game, though, the bench boss himself rejected questions about potential retirement in the post-game conference.
The 73-year-old specialist said any question about his plans to coach next season or leave the bench is "inappropriate" immediately after the Spurs' defeat.
A reporter asked the five-time NBA champion: "Do you think you'll come back to coach next season?"
Popovich was straightforward with an answer: "That question is inappropriate."
Coach Pop became the all-time winningest head coach in NBA history this season. Now, he has 1,344 victories during his years with San Antonio (1996-present).
The Spurs made the playoffs in 22 consecutive seasons from 1998 to 2019 under Popovich, winning five NBA championships.
Since then, San Antonio has finished with a losing record in three straight years, missing the postseason each time.
