Trinchieri shares a worrisome prediction on Hilliard's injury / News - Basketnews.com
FC Bayern Munich head coach Andrea Trinchieri revealed that his top scorer Darrun Hilliard probably suffered a fracture.
Trinchieri said in the post-game press conference that it looks like a clavicle fracture.
"I didn’t see the play, but having this kind of fracture on the screen, I want to see that screen," he added.
Hilliard accidentally hit tough as rock Latvian big man Rolands Smits in the fourth quarter of the playoffs opener in Barcelona.
A 29-year-old scorer tried to reach for the ball but ran into Smits like into the wall.
Barcelona's frontcourt player was first to catch the ball. He slightly turned around, trying to protect the ball, and Hilliard hit the shoulder area badly.
Hilliard, in enormous pain, couldn‘t get up for a while. He went straight to the locker room and put all the Bayern‘s front office on heels.
"Congrats to Barcelona. They deserved to win. We fought, and we had a very good first quarter. Two middle quarters were so so. We made some mistakes that at his level are not possible. You don't survive with these mistakes. But to be honest, I'm very proud of my team. We came back, and we fought. We had a very bad injury for Hilliard. Very severe. And it says how physical was the game," Trinchieri said after the loss 67-77.
“We have to observe this, regenerate and come up with an idea how to play game 2," Trinchieri added.
This season, Hilliard was the top scorer for Bayern, averaging 13.7 points per game. Before injury, he had 12 points in 18 minutes of action.
