After losing a close Game 4 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jankins was not happy about the officiating of the match.
Player of the Game EFF 30 Karl-Anthony Towns Points 33 Accuracy 8-17 Rebounds 14 Assists 3
"In my opinion, one of the most poorly officiated games I've ever seen in my NBA career," the coach said after the game. "All five of our stars borderline fouled out in the first quarter. 10+ foul difference, 40 free throws."
"Yeah, there are some things we have to clean up and get better at but I've never seen a more inconsistent, arrogant officiated game. I'll take whatever hits come in my way, I have to protect our guys," the coach continued.
"We have to get better but I mean, from the get-go it was foul foul foul foul foul, inconsistency," Jenkins explained his anger. "There was actually one play where the foul whistle was blown before contact was even made. It's embarrassing."
Jenkins wanted to self-reflect after the match but the thought about refereeing mistakes stopped him in his tracks.
"I'm always going to look at the mirror and say 'How are we going to play better? How am I going to coach better?' but I'm at a loss for words. I'm not going to go to say that's the reason we lost but I'm going to let it be known that's messed up."
"Arrogance, inconsistency," the coach finished his statement.
The next game of the series comes Tuesday night in Memphis.
