After Russia invaded Ukraine and started the war between the countries, all Russian clubs were eliminated from the 2021-2022 EuroLeague season's competition.

However, when things seemed to have settled down at least generally, one of the players, Joel Bolomboy, received a letter from CSKA Moscow about his imminent requirement to return to the club.
According to the letter Bolomboy shared on his Instagram story, "By this letter, we require Joel Bolomboy to return to the location of the Club no later than May 1st, 2022," the club states.
In case the player doesn't return, the club will treat it as a break of agreement and threatens to deduct pay for the last 7 games with less than 30% arena capacity. Furthermore, the team implies that the player must return his "overpaid agent's" fee to the club.
"In case of a negative answer or no answer, we will have to start the legal procedure," the letter states.
Bolomboy left the team earlier due to the war in Ukraine. According to the player, the members of the team were told they were free to leave. The latest letter, though, seems to point in the other direction.
"Get out of here! I already told you I am not coming back," Bolomboy told in his emotional post. "Your way of getting players to do what you want is by threatening them and trying to punish them."
"You told me and the whole team we can leave and you understand when the Russia/Ukraine situation escalated," the player ended his statement.
It is currently unclear how the situation between the two sides will proceed.
Bolomboy averaged 5.9 points and 4.1 rebounds for 7.7 PIR for the club in the EuroLeague season this year.
