Luka Doncic achieved an NBA Playoffs feat only topped by Kobe Bryant / News - Basketnews.com
Luka Doncic put on a tremendous display last night against the Phoenix Suns. Although the game ended in a defeat, the Slovenian superstar managed to achieve a feat only topped by the legendary Kobe Bryant.
Player of the Game EFF 26 Devin Booker Points 23 Accuracy 7-20 Rebounds 9 Assists 8
Doncic became the youngest player to get at least 45 points and 10 rebounds in a playoff game since the Black Mamba. Luka is now 23 years old.
Bryant first scored 45 points and grabbed 10 boards in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Tim Duncan and David Robinson-led San Antonio Spurs in 2001 when he was 22.
It was his first Conference Semifinal game in Doncic's career. "I thought Maxi [Kleber] and Luka in that first half kept us afloat," the Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. "We could have easily been down 39 at halftime but Maxi and LD were good. LD was good in the second half, too. We've just got to get someone to join the party."
Chris Paul overtook Spurs great Tony Parker to place himself 5th in the all-time playoffs assists leaderboard last night. "It's not always going to be pretty. We played well most of the game. We'll look at the film tomorrow and see what we need to do differently for Game 2," the Point God said after the game.
Doncic was often the lone warrior on the court against a balanced Suns offense. "I liked the fact that we weren’t settling for 3s tonight," Suns coach Monty Williams said. "A lot of guys were attacking the paint, we were getting floaters and rim shots."
Game 2 of the series is scheduled to take place Wednesday night in Phoenix where the Mavericks will look to bounce back after the Game 1 loss.
