The two players were roommates for two years and a half and shared a deep bond.
Green talked about how caring Payne was and that he died trying to help a friend because he cared about people more than he cared about himself.
"For everyone who knew Adreian, you know he was harmless, he cared about people more than he cared about himself", Green said during his podcast. "He lost his life trying to help someone. He tried to help a friend who was involved in a domestic dispute and when he arrived he was tragically shot".
"Rest in peace, Adreian, I love you, brother", Green added. "You were incredible, you beat the odds, you made it out of Dayton, Ohio. Not only did you graduate from college despite a learning disability. They said you could never play basketball at a high level, but you beat the odds and played in the NBA. Until we meet again, you have my word, I'll always look out for your loved ones."
The Golden State Warriors forward also promised that he'll take care of Payne's family in any way he can.
