"Like in the summertime, you have a cone. You make a move, what does the cone do? ['Stay still', Mike Greenberg replied] Exactly, he's a cone," he expressed. "Stop playing, man, everybody knows that. You just don't want to accept it."
Having heard the comments, current Philadelphia 76ers player Danny Green did not hold back his words during his podcast "Inside the Green Room with Danny Green".
"People target you too, PatBev, you aren't playing no defense out there," Green pushed back. "You ain't stopping Luka. Time and time again, Luka says 'he's too small' and went right at you every chance he got. When you play Luka, you're a cone too, how would you like that?"
Later on, the three-time NBA champion explained his animosity.
"I think a lot of guys in the league feel differently. A lot of locker room talk should not be shared outside the certain stories you can share," he shared. "You're talking about a Hall of Famer. You can critique him but disrespect is taking it a little far."
"He just used that platform because he has an issue with Chris, he used it as a personal vendetta to take out a lot of his anger on the set at that moment," Green continued. "I thought it was unfair for Chris, I'm sure a lot of people thought the same, a lot of guys in the league."
"PatBev is a guy you love having on your team but hate playing against," the guard gave praise. "That's disrespectful. I don't mind certain guys critiquing players, but you're a role player, like Matt Barnes said, to disrespect a Hall of Famer is too far. Calling somebody a cone is disrespectful, I don't care."
Challenged on his opinion, Danny Green provided an explanation.
"Target and cone are two different words. He said he can't guard. Chris Paul is a nine-time defensive team member. He can't guard? They targeted him but it's been times when PatBev has been targeted too. Are you kidding me?"
"It's ok, you can take out your personal vendettas but do it respectfully. Respect the game, respect the code, and respect the Hall of Famer," Green finished his emotional statement.
