Marc Gasol is probably the most famous 2nd division player in the world right now, competing for Basquet Girona from December 2021.

Since day one, Gasol was putting numbers for the Girona club. He debuted with 19 points, 16 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 turnover, and 39 PIR in a blowout win over Levitec Huesca The Magic, 89-47.

The 37-year-old center came to Girona when they were 2-7.

However, the squad finished 4th in the LEB Oro league with a 21-13 record (16-4 when Gasol played) and will fight for promotion as the 3rd seed, starting with Leyma Coruna, as noticed by Dmitry Planidin. The quarterfinal series are played in the best-of-five series.

Gasol averaged 14.8 points (61.9% 2PT, 46.2% 3PT, 73.2% FT), 8.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 20.7 PIR over 25.3 minutes this regular season.

The top-finishing team in the 2nd Spanish division is automatically promoted to the ACB League. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the ACB.

Coviran Granada (1st place) and one more club will replace MoraBanc Andorra and San Pablo Burgos, which were relegated from ACB League this campaign.

Before coming to Girona, Marc Gasol spent the previous season with the Los Angeles Lakers, registering 5.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 57 games.

Prior to his stint in L.A., Gasol played for the Toronto Raptors and became the NBA champion (2019).

Though, he established his name in Memphis where he spent more than a decade (2008-19). Marc Gasol was a three-time All-Star and the 2012-13 NBA Defensive Player of the Year during his time there.

He is the franchise's all-time leader in rebounds (5,942) and blocks (1,135) and ranks second behind Mike Conleyin both points (11,684) and assists (2,639).

The 2.11-meter big man has NBA career averages of 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists (891 duels).

Gasol is a long-time Spanish national team player. He participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where posted 5.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per 4 contests. After a loss in the quarter-final against the United States, Marc and his brother Pau announced their retirement from Spanish NT.
